Northern Rivers, NSW

The Fine Art of Wandering

with Glass Boxes

A loosely disciplined street photography and pastry-appreciation society. We roam the Northern Rivers armed with dubious analog equipment, seeking the perfect light and a decent almond croissant.

The Chief Instigator

Right. Hello. I suppose you're wondering what this is all about.

It started quite simply: I found myself wandering around Murwillumbah on a Tuesday, clutching a painfully expensive Leica M6, and realizing I had absolutely no one to debate the merits of Portra 400 with over a flat white.

So, I started this collective. The premise is embarrassingly simple: we gather in various scenic locales across the Northern Rivers—Byron, Tweed Heads, perhaps even Lismore if we're feeling particularly adventurous—and we walk. We look at things. Occasionally, we take a photograph. Mostly, we critique architecture and consume baked goods.

If you possess a camera (preferably one that clunks satisfyingly when you press the shutter), a tolerance for mild coastal dampness, and an appreciation for the absurd, you'll fit right in.

The Sacred Ritual

Three steps to achieving photographic enlightenment (or at least a decent afternoon out).

Gather & Plot

We convene at a pre-ordained coffee establishment. Maps are unfolded, caffeine is imbibed, and vague routes are negotiated.

The Flânerie

The main event. We disperse to document the mundane glory of the streets, seeking geometry, light, and interesting shadows.

The Debrief

We reconvene to loudly complain about missed shots, jammed shutters, and to consume an ungodly amount of carbohydrates.

The Grand Coffers

Good heavens — one cannot organise a respectable photographic society on enthusiasm and almond croissants alone. We have ambitions, you see: modest workshops for absolute beginners, a community film scanner so nobody need post their negatives to Sydney, and a small local zine to immortalise our more successful wanderings.

We are launching a Pozible campaign to make these schemes a reality. The target is modest. The commitment is sincere. The progress bar below is, at present, heroically at zero — which merely proves we have not yet begun to trouble the public purse.
